Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book-gifting charity for young children aged 0-5. Dolly was inspired to set up her Imagination Library as a tribute to her father, a smart and hard-working man who was unable to read or write. Dolly wants to guarantee access to books, inspire a lifelong love of reading and help children reach their full potential.
All children enrolled in the Imagination Library receive a book in the post every month until their 5th birthday. Every book is personally addressed to each individual child. All titles in the Imagination Library are published by Penguin Random House and carefully selected by a panel of experts in early childhood literacy and reading. Books are chosen to support developmental milestones and encourage active involvement. The programme is completely free for children and their families
Reading and imparting a love of books is one of the most important things we can do for our children. Book sharing with a child encourages bonding and development of language, communication and cognitive skills. Books are the fuel for a child’s imagination!
The Dollywood Foundation UK (DWF) works with sponsors to provide the books. Each Imagination Library sponsor funds the books and postage, currently £25 per child, per year. Sponsors do not pay for DWF staff, our database or any other DWF costs; Dolly pays for these in full. The sponsors include those from local and central government, companies big and small, NHS trusts, Rotary Clubs, charities, housing associations, primary schools as well as private individuals – people like you! Sponsors set up Imagination Libraries in entire towns, villages, nurseries... there are even companies offering Imagination Library as a staff benefit. Imagination Libraries range in size from 10,000 children to 10. Each individual Imagination Library is as big or small as the sponsor wants to make it.
As you would have read on our site, I have been performing as Dolly Parton for over 24 years. Often thinking to myself how can I give something back to a lady that has everything?
So Andy and I chose Dolly Parton's Imagaination as a perfect way to get invloved with Dolly.
We heard that a local Community was going to start up program so I asked if we could get involved with fundrasing as Andy had an idea of hosting a Golf Charity Tournament in DPIL's name ourselves.....
The day was a total success and there was enough funds raised to give the programme a great start.....
So the past years my Chosen Charity for support is (The Dollywood foundation) Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and we have continued to raise funds via Gala nights, perxonal appearances and Auctions.
This year we decided to donate a percentage of funds raised through a unique raffle. The audience can win a Signed Guitar at selected shows on our theatre tour and so far its been a great success.
